Pack your finest cowboy hat and book your adventure right now…Check Rates & Book Online >> Check out what local writer, Feet Banks, had to say about his Backcountry by Horseback adventure in Mountain Life Magazine’s article: “SADDLE UP TO SLOW DOWN” >> The expedition begins at the Alexander Falls base area where you will meet the other guests and get acquainted with the horses and charming guides. At a leisurely pace, the group will ride into lush old-growth forest and climb approx. 1400 ft. into distinct mountain terrain. With a few stops to enjoy various lookouts and a saddlebag lunch, this first ride will cover about 5-hours before reaching your home base at the welcoming Journeyman Lodge. Upon arrival at the lodge, guests are treated to a tasty afternoon snack & tea-service along with the opportunity to refresh, whether in the nearby creek-side sauna or a quick shower. As the sun sets a backcountry BBQ dinner is enjoyed. After dinner, retreat to the privacy of your room and cozy up with a good book, join other guests down at the pond side bon-fire, or enjoy the lounge and gaming room before turning in for a restful night’s sleep. On Day 2, take pleasure in a relaxing morning routine of waking with the slow rise of the sun, making your way down to the dining room for a cup of coffee and helping yourself to the continental breakfast buffet. This is a full day away from TV, cell phones, and computers so enjoy the quiet atmosphere around the lodge, or grab a prepared-pack lunch and adventure out for a day of self-guided hiking along the subalpine routes of Callaghan Country’s Solitude Valley. Be sure to make it back by 7pm for another 4-course dinner with your new friends. By Day 3 the Journeyman Lodge feels like a second home, but after a final breakfast buffet it’s time to pack your bags and ready for a pleasant ride back down the valley. The lunch stop is great opportunity to snag the perfect picture with you and the horses. This is your final connection with wilderness and you savor every moment of it…the mountain vistas, the rushing creeks, and the clippity-clop of your horses’ walk. With stories and an excellent collection of new photos to bring back to friends, the “Backcountry by Horseback” ride ends back at the Alexander Falls base area with a final goodbye to your horse and guides. |
