| The 2007-2008 winter season will see many exciting changes at Callaghan Country Wilderness Adventures.
With the opening of the new Olympic Nordic Centre in December, the biggest improvement is the brand new paved access road that will be plowed all winter long. This improved access has enabled Callaghan Country to make a host of improvements, including a new base area, ski-in access for our overnight lodge programs and a new Day-Use Nordic Program, geared for local and regional Nordic skiers.
Day-Use Nordic Program
With the new paved road access, Callaghan Country can now offer
day-use access to its incredible Nordic terrain, an exprience previously
reserved for weekenders. Better yet, we have agreed with the neighbouring
2010 Olympic Nordic venue to honour each other's trail tickets and
season passes, in an effort to create a seamless and fully comprehensive
Nordic skiing experience in the Callaghan Valley.
Together
with the new Olympic Nordic venue we will offer more than
60 km of Nordic trails including over 40 km of recreational trails
to suit skiers of every ability level.
With the
Olympic venue's world-class Nordic and ski jumping facilities combined
with Callaghan Country's pristine wilderness setting, spectacular
scenic qualities, full-service backcountry lodge and range of winter
activities, the Callaghan Valley promises to become one of the premiere
destinations in the world for Nordic skiing and self-propelled winter
recreation of every kind.
The Easy Way Up
We operate a snow shuttle service from our base to Callaghan Lodge
for those wishing to save their energy for the upper valley trail
network, and for those preferring to go snowshoeing or alpine
ski touring. The shuttle service is via our snow coach, a modified
F350 crew cab truck with a passenger pod and rubber tracks, or via
our snow cat (seats one in the cab and up to 4 on the deck). The
9.5km shuttle will take you to the junction of Upper and Lower Wild
Spirit at the Provincial Park boundary. From there it is a 2.5km
ski to Callaghan Lodge.
Shuttle departures are weather
dependent as the shuttle cannot travel in heavy snow conditions.
Please call us at 604.938.0616 to inquire about shuttle availability
and departures. |
