| Michael Downey was born in Cranbrook, a small town in south-eastern British Columbia, and spent the first years of his life moving throughout Canada. At the age of 18, Michael decided to become a chef and entered the Canadian Armed Forces as a means to earn his Chef's papers.
Michael graduated from the Canadian Armed Forces School of Administration and Logistics in 1991. During his time in the military, he held various posts - including working aboard Naval Destroyers, Frigates, and Minesweepers. It was experience working in the Officers Clubs that solidified his passion for the culinary arts.
In 1994 Michael left the military to pursue his career, and he found his place in Whistler, B.C.
As an avid outdoor enthusiast, Michael enjoys skiing, snowboarding, alpine touring, sledding, mountain biking, and any just about other sport that gets him outside.
